Stiles: These are no longer threats and Ontario won’t back down

WINDSOR — Marit Stiles, Ontario NDP leader, issued the following statement following Trump’s confirming he will be imposing tariffs – putting half a million Ontario jobs at risk:

“These are no longer threats. Earlier today, the Trump administration confirmed that tariffs are coming for Canadian jobs, and we need to fight to protect every single worker.

"We need a unified Canadian response. Every province must stand together, alongside the federal government and our international allies. We need to work together to levy a smart, tough tariff response that hits back hard. We cannot let Trump divide us within Canada, or across the world. We’re stronger together. That is how we win this fight.

"Doug Ford quit his job on the eve of these tariffs to try and secure himself a third term. And the situation is getting more serious each day.

Ontario desperately needs a leader with better judgement in the face of Trump’s tariffs; that is why I am running to be Premier and win an NDP government that is on your side.”
